About Dr Anna Oldershaw
Hi, I’m Dr Anna Oldershaw
I am an experienced presenter, trainer, clinical psychologist and clinical supervisor. I seek to establish collaborative working relationships – whether that be with clients in therapy or colleagues in training – which reflect the core values I hold of warmth, empathy, respect and prizing of individuals. As both a therapist and trainer I aim to foster a safe and supportive space where people feel secure to bring their authentic selves and work towards their individual goals.
I was trained as an Emotion Focused Therapist, Supervisor and Trainer under the direct tutelage of Professor Robert Elliott and Professor Les Greenberg, co-developers of Emotion Focused Therapy. Since 2018, I have co-facilitated trainings led by both Prof Greenberg and Prof Elliott across the accreditation program running training out of the Emotion Focused Therapy Institute of England and in private practice. I have considerable experience as an invited trainer to NHS and third sector services, as well as other Emotion Focused Training Institutes internationally.
With a passion for teaching and learning, I seek to provide training that is engaging, exciting and accessible.
Having worked clinically in the NHS and private practice for over 15 years, I have extensive experience in working with people with eating disorders, with relationship difficulties and people with developmental trauma and post-traumatic stress in particular. I have specialist training in Emotion Focused Therapy and Schema Therapy and centre my practice around these approaches; however, I am trained in and draw on a number of therapeutic modalities, such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Eating Disorders and for Trauma.
My style is flexible and I seek to both ‘follow and guide’ my clients in their therapy journey, being responsive and adaptive to emerging needs. Work can move freely between a focus on practical or problem-solving strategies and on safely approaching the processing and healing of emotional difficulties and pain. I seek to assist clients to make meaning from the past and build hope for the future. I believe in supporting individuals to gradually build a sense of self-agency and self-efficacy in their lives; the confidence for clients to trust in themselves and their emotions, enabling them to face future challenges and meet their own needs in healthy and productive ways.
I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and registered with the Health Care and Professions Council. I’m an internationally accredited supervisor and trainer in Emotion Focused Therapy, and Director and Lead Trainer of the Emotion Focused Therapy Institute of England. I’m also an accredited Schema Therapist.

Yes, I regularly speak at events on topics related to emotions, Emotion Focused Therapy and SPEAKS. For NHS and university research groups, I am always grateful to be invited to present my clinical and research practice, and of course don’t charge these settings for non-training engagements. For speaking at private and third sector events, please do contact me to discuss your requirements.
I offer bespoke and tailored training packages regularly for both NHS and private services looking to enhance their Emotion Focused Therapy or SPEAKS skills and experience. Contact me for a free consultation on your service needs and exploration of a useful focus for your training event. Once a training event is agreed, I develop and deliver your bespoke program, including all associated presentation and training materials.
I deliver training in person in Kent, London and the South East of England. Training is available internationally online.
Specifically, all SPEAKS training and some EFT training is delivered in an online format as well as most bespoke service training workshops (outside of the southeast). When training is in person it is run at the Emotion Focused Therapy Institute England, based at the Salomons Institute of Applied Psychology, Canterbury Christ Church University in central Tunbridge Wells. Further details about how to find the Emotion Focused Therapy Institute England, including travel and local accommodation options, can be found here.
As an accredited trainer, I can be booked to deliver the taught EFT programme including Emotion Focused Therapy Core Skills (EFT level 1), Advanced Skills (EFT level 2) and/or Advanced Empathy at your service/institute. I can also deliver the SPEAKS training package directly to your service or Institute. Contact me to enquire about inhouse training.
