Training in Emotion Focused and SPEAKS Therapy

Trainer, supervisor and speaker

I’m Dr Anna Oldershaw, a Clinical Psychologist, experienced trainer, and clinical supervisor with a specialist focus in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Eating Disorders and Neurodiversity.

I completed my EFT accreditation under the direct supervision of Professors Les Greenberg and Robert Elliott, the co-developers of the approach. Since 2018, I’ve had the privilege of co-facilitating EFT trainings alongside both Professors Greenberg and Elliott across the full accreditation pathway.

I am an accredited EFT trainer and supervisor with the International Society for Emotion Focused Therapy (isEFT) and currently serve as the Director and Lead Trainer at the Emotion Focused Therapy Institute of England. I provide training in Emotion Focused Therapy, the SPEAKS intervention for adults with anorexia, and bespoke workshops tailored to therapists, services, and organisations.

Training in Emotion Focused Therapy

Training in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) equips therapists with practical, evidence-based tools that can be seamlessly integrated into their existing practice, even within single-session formats. For those seeking to deepen their expertise, there is the opportunity to pursue full accreditation as an Emotion Focused Therapist, including training in disorder-specific models.

Accreditation is guided by the standards of the International Society for Emotion Focused Therapy (isEFT) and involves both taught components and supervised clinical practice. To become an accredited EFT therapist, practitioners must complete taught components of Level 1 (Core Skills) and Level 2 (Advanced Skills), whilst Advanced Empathy training is highly recommended. Supervised practice hours (Level 3) can be completed in a individual or group format. For full details about the accreditation process, visit the isEFT website.

Accredited trainings are delivered by the Emotion Focused Therapy Institute of England, which is recognised by isEFT and hosted by the Salomons Institute for Applied Psychology at Canterbury Christ Church University. To supplement skill development regular Masterclasses by a range of invited guest trainers are available, as well as EFT Supervision.

SPEAKS Training

SPEAKS is a structured, evidence-based intervention developed for adults living with anorexia. Rooted in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and drawing from Schema Therapy, SPEAKS provides therapists with the tools to facilitate meaningful emotional change through focused work.

Training in SPEAKS gives therapists a comprehensive understanding of the model and equips them with practical skills to integrate the model and its techniques into their clinical practice. The intervention follows a process-oriented guide that helps clients reconnect with the “Real Me” — a resilient, integrated sense of self. Clients can process emotions more effectively, build self-agency, and meet core needs in adaptive, life-enhancing ways.

Gaining SPEAKS Affiliation requires that therapists are already clinically trained and have completed additional SPEAKS training through the Emotion Speaks training programmeTo support model fidelity, ongoing skill development and therapeutic effectiveness, supervision from an experienced SPEAKS-informed supervisor is strongly recommended.

Bespoke CPD & Short Courses

CPD workshops and short courses on Emotion Focused Therapy or SPEAKS are available for clinical services, teams or EFT Institutes. We will work closely with you to tailor these to your specific learning needs and aims.

Bespoke training packages for both NHS and private services are provided for those looking to build skills and confidence in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) or the SPEAKS intervention. All training is delivered by our accredited and experienced team, and each session is tailored to suit the specific needs and goals of your service; whether just starting out or expanding existing practice.

Our bespoke workshops are particularly popular among teams delivering Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CfD)—a NICE-recommended approach for NHS Talking Therapies services that incorporates EFT principles. PCE-CfD clinicians frequently report that EFT components enhance their clinical work and value further training to effectively and confidently use EFT tasks in therapy.

We also offer specialist workshops focused on eating disorders, which draw on both EFT techniques and the SPEAKS intervention. These workshops provide clinicians with practical tools to support emotional change processes in this client group.

Previous participants have consistently rated our workshops highly – 100% of attendees say they would recommend them to colleagues.

Our CPD and Bespoke training is delivered online in an interactive, engaging format, designed to support practical learning and meaningful skill development. Each workshop runs for a minimum of one day and combines a variety of teaching methods to suit different learning styles.

Sessions include:

  • Live presentations from experienced, accredited trainers

  • Handouts and supporting materials

  • Therapy videos and demonstrations to bring the model to life

  • Supervised skills practice in small groups with live feedback

Whether you’re new to Emotion Focused Therapy or SPEAKS, or looking to deepen your practice, our workshops are structured to be dynamic, supportive, and clinically relevant.

Clinical Supervision

I am passionate about supporting high quality psychological therapy through supervision of other therapists and offer a limited number of supervision spaces for therapists which count towards accredited supervision hours.

My supervision practice reflects the values that underpin my clinical work – collaborative, relational, reflective, and grounded in evidence-based approaches. I have a particular interest in dialogical self models, drawing primarily on Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and Schema Therapy.

I offer a supportive, empathic, and non-judgemental supervision space where practitioners can feel safe to explore challenges, celebrate progress, and develop their therapeutic skills. With over 15 years’ experience working with eating disorders across both NHS and private settings, I bring a practical understanding of the realities of frontline clinical work.

I offer supervision that contributes towards accreditation requirements and am pleased to provide:

  • Accredited EFT supervision

  • Accredited SPEAKS supervision

  • Schema Therapy–informed supervision (“Schema-friendly”)

  • Specialist supervision for those working with eating disorders and neurodivergent clients

Supervision sessions are structured to support practical skill development, clinical confidence and model adherence.

A key part of the supervision process involves reviewing audio or video recordings of your clinical work. Bringing tapes is strongly encouraged and forms a central part of the learning. This allows us to explore real therapeutic moments in detail, focusing on emotional process, therapeutic presence, task timing, and technique refinement in a supportive, collaborative way.

Sessions are held online, making supervision accessible across the UK.

  • Fee: £100 per 50-minute session

  • Supervision hours can count towards EFT and SPEAKS accreditation, or your broader professional supervision requirements.

Please get in touch to discuss availability or arrange an initial discovery call. I’m happy to answer any questions and explore together if my supervision style and skills are the right fit for your practice.

Emotion Focused Therapy accreditation involves a taught component and supervised practice. The Level 1 (core skills), level 2 (advanced skills) and advanced empathy are the required taught components for people seeking to be an accredited EFT therapist. Once you have completed the taught components, the level you are trained to depends on how much supervised practice you decide to complete, and whether you would like to submit tapes of your practice to be rated. The International Society for Emotion Focused Therapy sets out on its website the different levels and what is required to reach that level, all the way through to becoming a certified trainer. You can find it here.

Training is delivered online or in person. When training is in person, it runs out of the Emotion Focused Therapy Institute England, based at the Salomons Institute of Applied Psychology, Canterbury Christ Church University in central Tunbridge Wells. Local travel and accommodation information can be found here.
